DJI is the largest manufacturer of drones in the world by far. They account for up to 70% of the drone market. You would be hard pressed to find drones to even compare DJI against since they have much greater range and flight time than pretty much everyone else.

Although DJI makes the best drones, they don’t have the best prices. DJI drones are known to be expensive. If you are spending upwards of a $1000 on a drone, you want to make sure that you get it from the right place. You want to know that the store you buy it from will have your back if anything goes wrong.

You must purchase your drone from a DJI Authorized Dealer in order for your warranty to be valid with the company. The companies below are all listed DJI’s official website. As a result, you can feel rest assured that the company will honor their warranty if you purchase through these dealers. DJI has a 6 – 12 month warranty on their drones for manufacturing defects so this is something that you don’t want to lose.

DJI Official Stores

The retailers below are called “DJI Official Stores” by the company:

DJI.com

You won’t have any warranty issues if you purchase your drone directly from DJI. Another benefit is that shipping is free on almost everything and there’s no sales tax. Additionally, you can add DJI Care Refresh and it will automatically be attached to your drone’s serial number.

DJI Care Refresh is a warranty from DJI that covers almost every type of damage including water damage. They will either fix or replace the drone for a small fee. This is a lifesaver if you are a new or aggressive drone flyer and you don’t want to lose the thousands you’ve spent on your drone in one accident.

Another thing to note is that DJI offers a 14 day return policy after it has been shipped to your house. You can also apply for financing through Affirm, which is a big plus for some people.

DJI’s shipping tends to be a little slower than other options, but there’s a benefit to knowing that it’s directly from the manufacturer.

Amazon

Amazon sells a ton of DJI products on their site. Make sure that you are still purchasing from an Authorized Dealer when buying on Amazon. Amazon typically has a 1 month return policy so you still want to make sure you don’t lose your manufacturing warranty from DJI by buying from an unofficial seller.

Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to determine if someone is an authorized dealer. If it says “DJI” above the product name then it’s from the company. Otherwise, search for ‘DJI Authorized Dealer’ on the Amazon listing of the page. Most of the sellers on Amazon are Authorized Dealers so you should be fine.

The benefit of ordering from Amazon is the fast and free two day shipping for Prime members. Most sites don’t come anywhere near this, even DJI.com unless you pay extra to expedite your shipping. Another benefit is that sellers really want to protect their ratings on their profiles, so they will move an extra mile to keep you happy.

One last benefit to shopping on Amazon is that there are a ton of DJI drone bundles. Bundles lower the price of the drone by adding in extra free items.

Other Stores

Although these are not “DJI Official Stores”, they are perfectly good places to buy a DJI drone. It’s not entirely clear but the difference between Authorized Dealer and DJI Official Store appears to be that DJI will ship the drone to you if you purchase from an official store. In the end, this is a minor difference.

B&H Photo

B&H Photo is a great place to buy a DJI drone. This is because they also do not have sales tax and the shipping is free and faster than DJI.com. People who have shopped with B&H Photo before over the years will really like this option since they have grown to trust the site.

DJI drones are sold at thousands of stores across the world. These are some other options to consider:

  • Best Buy
  • Sam’s Club
  • Costco
  • Target
  • Cabela’s
  • Kohl’s
  • Fry’s of Electronics
  • Adorama
  • Walmart
  • BJ’s
  • Dick’s Sporting Goods
  • Microsoft Stores

If you purchase from these stores, the selection is likely to be limited. Sometimes the stores will only carry DJI drones seasonally and right now they often just carry the Mavic Pro.

Those of you looking for a new DJI drone that has been recently launched should check as many of these retailers as possible to see if they have inventory. Each company will be allotted a certain number of units during a new product launch. The Mavic Air and the Mavic Pro should be relatively easy to find now.

It’s important to remember that if you want DJI Refresh Care on your drone, you need to register it to your drone’s serial number within 48 hours of first flying your drone. You can still get DJI’s insurance after 48 hours but it’s much harder to do.
