For many professionals, USB-C monitors are becoming a must-have. There are a number of reasons for this. Firstly, there’s the fact that Apple’s latest MacBook Pro’s only use USB-C, with many newer Windows laptops now also adopting the new connector. On top of that are all the reasons why connection via USB-C is so useful. USB-C comes with a lot of perks, most notably faster data transfer and 4K support.

We are now in a time where all the main manufacturers are releasing USB-C monitors and many of them are really good. Below are the 10 best options currently available.

1. LG 27MD5KA 27” UltraFine 5K USB-C Monitor

LG 27MD5KA 27” UltraFine 5K USB-C MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4/5

The first entry on this list comes from LG. When it comes to TV’s and monitors, LG really knows their stuff and this product is yet another example of that. For starters, it is the only monitor on this list featuring a 5K display. This puts its display in a class of its own straight away. On top of that though, it uses an IPS LED panel, meaning that the display will provide a great image from all sorts of viewing angles.

There is a downside to having such a high resolution, however. 5K is a relatively new thing and users might find that certain programs they use haven’t yet been optimized for 5K. This will be less likely with mainstream programs but if you use any niche software, it’s worth checking first.

The other downside is that this product is said to only be compatible with Mac. Although this will eliminate a lot of potential scaling issues, it is a shame that a monitor of this quality is limited to Apple users.

The screen itself is 27 inches wide with an aspect ratio of 16:9. This isn’t large by today’s standards but it certainly isn’t small either. For users who just want a simple screen with no gimmicks, this combination is a safe bet.

The monitor only comes with USB-C ports which on one hand is limiting, but at the same time, the monitor probably doesn’t need anything else, as it has been made specifically for MacBooks and iMacs. The fact that you get three regular USB-C ports rather than one also makes it less of an issue.

One of the most disappointing aspects of this monitor is the fact that it doesn’t have any internal speakers. Although this is common for a lot of monitors, it would have been nice to see them integrated at this price point.

It does a lot of things right but also lacks a few key features for a monitor of this price.

2. Acer H277HU 27” USB-C Monitor

Acer H277HU 27” USB-C MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.2/5

The Acer H277HU is a good all-rounder for anyone looking for a simple USB-C monitor. It doesn’t have many standout features compared to the other products on this list but it makes up for it by being a no-nonsense, high-quality monitor that simply gets the job done. It also has the added bonus of being one of the cheaper options on this list.

Like the LG above, it has a screen size of 27 inches and features an IPS panel. The Acer panel, however, is LCD rather than LED, so the colors won’t be as accurate. This isn’t a huge issue but it is worth mentioning. It also has a resolution of 2560 x 1440 which is fine for a monitor of this size but the images will hardly blow you away.

The monitor comes with plenty of ports which is nice to see. Having three ports capable of inputting video means users can customize their setup in a number of different ways, making the monitor very versatile in this regard.

The monitor also comes with two integrated 3w speakers. Although it is always nice to see speakers integrated into monitors, they usually leave a lot to be desired, so it might be worth investing in a separate sound system if you care about audio quality.

Although it isn’t a standout in any one area, it does everything it needs to and is well priced.

3. Top Pick: BenQ PD2710QC 27” Designer USB-C Monitor

BenQ PD2710QC 27” Designer USB-C MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5

The BenQ PD2710QC is a more than just a monitor, it also doubles up as a docking station. BenQ has aimed this monitor at people who need to use a lot of connectors and cables to get tasks done, whether at work or at home and they might have come up with the perfect solution. Users simply have to connect to the monitor’s dock via USB-C and then use the dock itself for all other peripherals.

Although the dock is a great feature, the rest of the monitor is decent as well. It has a 27-inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and uses an IPS panel. This is reasonable and will provide a nice display for pretty much any task. It is not 4K but given its target market, it doesn’t need to be.

Thanks to the dock, the monitor has a very good selection of ports. BenQ even managed to squeeze an ethernet port into the dock which will certainly benefit some users. On top of that, it has four standard USB ports, giving users plenty of connectors for their peripherals.

The only real let down with this monitor is the integrated speakers. Again, it makes sense, given the target market but they really aren’t that powerful.

This is a great monitor all things considered and definitely worth further research.

4. Acer XR382CQK 37.5” Curved USB-C Monitor

Acer XR382CQK 37.5” Curved USB-C MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5

The Acer XR382CQK is the first monitor on this list to feature an ultra-wide display. These are a bit hit and miss, some people love them while others hate them. On one hand, they can be great for multitasking and gaming, but some users find them irritating as not everything a person does on a computer benefits from an ultra-wide display. The screen is also curved which again, divides opinion.

The display itself is 37.5 inches, making it one of the largest on this list. It also has a 4K resolution, so you can be sure to get amazing visuals from this display, regardless of the aspect ratio. In addition, it uses an IPS panel, which will provide great viewing angles with the curved display.

The monitor comes with a generous selection of ports, giving users plenty of options for connecting their peripherals. One of the most notable ports on this monitor is the MLH port. This is used to connect devices such as smartphones and tablets, but it gives users more options than a standard HDMI connection.

The speakers integrated into this monitor are actually pretty good. There are two 7w DTS speakers and they provide decent sound that should satisfy a lot of users. If you are a gamer, however, you will still benefit far more from a headset. The speakers are great for watching videos and playing background music.

It ticks pretty much every box but it isn’t perfect.

Wide aspect ratio is good for multitasking

The Cons

5. Best Budget: LG 34UM69G-B 34” UltraWide USB-C Monitor

LG 34UM69G-B 34” UltraWide USB-C MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 3.8/5

The LG 34UM69G-B is the second monitor on this list featuring an ultra-wide display. It has a screen width of 34” and uses a 21:9 aspect ratio just like the Acer above. Again, this type of screen will be hit and miss and it really depends on the individual as to whether an ultra-wide display is a good or bad thing.

The resolution of the display is 2560 x 1080 which isn’t amazing by today’s standards but it is adequate. Given the size of the screen, it would have been nice to see at least a 1440p display but considering most games are played at 1080p and this monitor is primarily targeted at gamers, it makes sense. The panel itself is IPS, so regardless of quality, you can be sure to get great viewing angles from this display.

The port selection on this monitor is reasonably good. It gives users three different options for inputting video which is pretty decent, although, it doesn’t seem to have any other ports except for a headphone jack, which is rather disappointing.

The monitor has two integrated 7w speakers meaning they are certainly some of the more powerful on this list. Most monitors either don’t have speakers or they include really weak ones so having a pair of 7w speakers is a real bonus. As good as they are though, gamers will still benefit far more from a headset.

Overall, this is a decent monitor and will really suit the right person, but it isn’t perfect and it’s more unique features won’t be for everyone.

6. Asus PA32UC 32” Ultra HD ProArt Professional Monitor

Asus PA32UC 32” Ultra HD ProArt Professional MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.5/5

The Asus ProArt has been specifically designed for professionals in creative fields such as photography and videography, but because of this, it has a lot to offer the average consumer as well.

The most obvious feature is the display. To start with it has a 32” screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. This makes it very large for a monitor and although many people will love it, those with smaller desks may find it to be a bit too much. It has a 4K resolution which is to be expected of a professional-grade monitor but ASUS has also had the display pre-calibrated and claims that this monitor provides industry-leading color accuracy with 100% sRGB and Rec. 709color space support. The panel is IPS, offering great viewing angles, however, IPS panels do tend to require more power and given the size of this screen, some users may have an issue with that.

The number of ports this monitor has is excellent. Aside from its four HDMI ports and its DisplayPort, this monitor also has three USB-C ports, making it’s inputting options very flexible and likely to cover almost any setup requirements. It also has two regular USB ports for peripherals and a headphone jack.

The speakers are really the only let down with this monitor. There are two of them and they are each 3w but for a monitor at this price point, users should really be getting more for their money.

Overall, this is an excellent monitor with an amazing screen, but if you care about audio quality, invest in a separate speaker as the integrated ones simply won’t cut it.

7. LG 27UK850-W 27″ 4K UHD IPS Monitor

LG 27UK850-W 27 4K UHD IPS MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.2/5

The LG 27UK850-W is a great monitor that often slips under the radar, mostly because it has no real standout features. It does, however, do everything well and without gimmicks, which is something to consider when buying a monitor you plan to use for a long time.

It has a screen width of 27” with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 3840 x 2160. Nothing too fancy but it is a 4K display and thanks to it’s IPS LED panel, it is able to deliver a 99% color accuracy. The fact that it is an LED panel, rather than an LCD panel also means it is able to provide deeper blacks which is always nice to see.

The port selection is also reasonable. It has four options for inputting video and also includes two regular USB ports for peripherals. A lot of the other monitors on this list have more ports but again, this is a monitor that ticks the boxes without being excessive.

For audio, it has two integrated 5w speakers which will provide a decent sound for a monitor but they aren’t going to come close to a proper sound system. If you require a good level of sound quality, you certainly shouldn’t rely on these speakers.

Nothing flashy, but it gets the job done, and gets it done well.

8. Best Value: ASUS Designo MX27UC 27” 4K UHD IPS Monitor

ASUS Designo MX27UC 27” 4K UHD IPS MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.4/5

The ASUS Designo is a sleek, stylish monitor that is very reasonably priced for what it offers. It has an award-winning frameless design with a metallic, icicle gold finish that really stands out when it’s stood next to other monitors. It isn’t all about looks though, as it comes with specs to rival most of the competitors on this list.

To start with, it has a 27” screen with a 4K resolution that simply looks stunning with the frameless design. The panel is IPS, offering great viewing angles and the aspect ratio is 16:9, so there are no fancy gimmicks going on either.

There is a decent range of ports on this monitor but they aren’t head turning. It has everything most people will need but it isn’t exactly generous. It does, however, give users multiple options for inputting video. This isn’t unique but it’s still good to see.

The audio on this monitor is decent considering the speakers are only 3w but it still isn’t mindblowing. It does have two 3w amplifiers to help with the audio though. ASUS claims that the audio is good enough to eliminate the need for external speakers, but consumers should take that information with a pinch of salt as it seems unlikely.

Great styling and the monitor does everything pretty well.

9. Dell Ultrathin S2718D Type-C Monitor

Dell Ultrathin S2718D Type-C MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4/5

The Dell Ultrathin S2718D has been around for a while now but it still remains one of the best monitors offering USB-C compatibility. It has a 27” inch screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1440, which is a bit of a let down as it isn’t 4K, but it still offers great visuals regardless. It also follows the trend of the other monitors on this list with an IPS panel but it also uses Dell HDR to provide visuals with greater contrast. It also has an aspect ratio of 16:9 so any programs should look normal and scale properly.

The port options on this monitor are a bit of a letdown. It has all of the main ports that a user is likely to need but in most cases, it only offers one of each and it doesn’t include a DisplayPort. This isn’t a huge issue, but considering most of the other monitors on this list include that port it is a bit of a shame.

The other letdown with this monitor is the fact that it doesn’t have any internal speakers. It isn’t a must have as many users prefer to use external speakers anyway, but for those who don’t have any, it could be enough to turn them away from an otherwise decent monitor.

Still good, although compared to some other monitors on this list, it is starting to look a little dated.

10. Viewsonic VP2771 27″ IPS WQHD Monitor

Viewsonic VP2771 27″ IPS WQHD MonitorView on Amazon

Editor’s Rating: 4.2/5

The Viewsonic VP2771 is another monitor that has been designed for professional use, mainly by individuals in photo or video editing fields. This means that while it lacks a couple of things found on a lot of other monitors, it still offers plenty in terms of image quality.

It has a screen width of 27” with an aspect ratio of 16:9, so it keeps it pretty standard in this regard, however, it has some tricks up its sleeve when it comes to the display itself. Although it only has a resolution of 2560 x 1440, it uses a few special technologies to give outstanding color accuracy and thanks to its IPS panel, the viewing angles are also brilliant.

The port selection on this monitor is very good, although, it does emphasize once again that this monitor is primarily focused on giving users a great display. It has two DisplayPorts and a DisplayPort Out rather than extra HDMI ports, which tells you everything you need to know about the target market of this product, however, it does have a HDMI port and plenty of USB ports, so the average consumer should still be able to use this monitor without any hassle.

There doesn’t seem to be any internal speakers built into this monitor, which isn’t a surprise, considering the focus of this product. It does come with a headphone jack though, so external speakers can be connected if necessary.

Amazing display but the rest of the product leaves you wanting a bit more.
